In a thrilling cinematic video revealed today, Formula 1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc take on an epic and playful mission to assemble the LEGO® Technic™ Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car in their very own LEGO wind tunnel – all under the watchful (and slightly cheeky) eyes of their team principal, Fred Vasseur.  

The LEGO Technic Ferrari model needs to stand up against the aerodynamic test of the wind tunnel – pushing its capabilities like a real Scuderia Ferrari HP F1 car.

Amidst the powerful hum of the LEGO wind tunnel, the two drivers dive into the intricate world of LEGO Technic, exploring every detail of the set that mirrors a real Scuderia Ferrari F1 HP car. Wind tunnels are central to developing some of the most legendary Ferrari cars in racing history, so it was fitting for a wind tunnel to star as the backdrop of this test of speed and teamwork. As the pressure mounts, the excitement is high, giving fans an exhilarating glimpse into LEGO Technic’s fusion of precision engineering and playful creativity.

**Silverstone, England, 12 September 2024:** The LEGO Group and McLaren Automotive have embarked on the toughest LEGO Technic challenge to date, recreating a one-of-a-kind, fully drivable McLaren P1™ made from LEGO Technic elements. And if that wasn’t enough, McLaren F1™ driver, Lando Norris has been enlisted for the ultimate challenge, to complete a lap of the iconic British racetrack, Silverstone, in the 1:1 scale LEGO Technic McLaren P1.

This life-size replica of the McLaren P1™ is made from 342,817 LEGO Technic elements, weighing approximately 1220kg, with some truly remarkable displays of engineering. The car has fully functional steering, making it the first LEGO big build ever capable of steering and taking on tricky racetrack corners. The build features an electric motor consisting of LEGO Technic Function batteries and an electric car battery, allowing it to travel further than any other LEGO model before it.

The big build process came to life with 23 specialists from design, engineering and building from the LEGO group and McLaren Automotive, with 8,344 hours of development and construction and requiring 393 different types of LEGO Technic elements.   

With the car assembled, all that was left to do was to embark on the ultimate challenge, and with it being a McLaren supercar replica, who better to get behind the wheel than McLaren F1™ Driver, Lando Norris. The British driver was more than up to the task, taking on the twist and turns of the 5.891km (3.66 miles) track and completing the lap around the Silverstone Circuit. With the enormity of this challenge, Silverstone was the perfect setting given McLaren’s rich history with the home of British racing.

**Billund, Denmark - 10th July 2024:** The British supercar maker McLaren Automotive and the LEGO Group today unveil their latest collaboration paying tribute to the world’s most pioneering hybrid hypercar, with the introduction of the LEGO® Technic™ McLaren P1™. 

The McLaren P1™ redefined automotive high-performance as the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar of its time. The P1™ leveraged McLaren’s advanced motorsport-based engineering, featuring ground-breaking advances in weight reduction, packaging, high-speed performance, powertrain and aerodynamics. 

Created with the intention of being ‘the best driver’s car in the world on both road and track’, the design and technical specifications of the McLaren P1™ provided the ideal foundation to deliver on this ambition. The remarkable hypercar is recognised as a landmark both for McLaren and the development of high-performance hybrid vehicles. 

The incredible engineering and technology underpinning the performance, style and functional design the McLaren P1™, made it the perfect challenge for the LEGO Technic team to replicate in 1:8 scale. 

Unveiled as part of the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, the all-new 1:8 scale LEGO Technic version consists of 3,893 elements and each car features a unique serial number which unlocks special behind-the-scenes content, it has a 7-speed gearbox with 2 shifter drums, suspension, V8 piston engine, adjustable rear wing, and opening dihedral doors with advanced mechanism – all guaranteeing an immersive building experience from start to finish that is authentic to the real McLaren P1™.    

The model was created by the LEGO Technic design team in close collaboration with McLaren Automotive and both teams were focused on implementing as much cutting-edge functionality in the model as possible, as a tribute to both the real P1™ as well as the engineering excellence that McLaren is known for.

2022 saw McLaren announce the Solus GT, a single-seat, closed-cockpit track car which brought to life a futuristic concept that was originally created for virtual gaming. 

In 2023, McLaren unveiled its lightest and most powerful series-production supercar, the 750S – a thorough development of the award-winning 720S supercar. McLaren also introduced the new GTS, replacing the McLaren GT.  

The McLaren Artura Spider was revealed in early 2024 as the brand’s first high-performance hybrid convertible. Its introduction was part of a major model year uplift for the Artura nameplate, and meant McLaren’s series-production line-up of GTS, new Artura and 750S had been introduced within 12 months of each other.

**Billund/Le Mans - June 10th, 2023:** To mark the Centenary of the iconic Le Mans 24-hour race, master LEGO® Technic™ builders and the elite hyper car design team from PEUGEOT Sport have pulled off their biggest challenge to date – scaling up the LEGO Technic PEUGEOT 9x8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar to 11:1 scale… in just 24 hours, live at Le Mans. 

It was pedal to the metal for the 12 design, engineering and building experts from the LEGO Group who built throughout the night: It took 626.392 LEGO Technic elements and almost no pit stops – a true feat of endurance.  

The finished model features 623 different types of LEGO Technic elements, weights over 900 kg and is a scaled-up replica of the real-life LEGO Technic model: 520 cm long, 220 cm wide and 136 cm high.

The race against time started yesterday at 19:00 CEST when the Le Mans official speaker Anthony Drevet kicked off the challenge at the PEUGEOT Sport stand in the Fan Village right next to the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe. Visitors got to experience the model being assembled live on-site by the 12 LEGO builders. 

Usually, large-scale LEGO Technic builds of this size take teams of 8 builders, over 5 months to complete, but the team beat the clock to take poll position at 19:00. 

To make it possible, the team developed a concept for ‘hyper elements’ – upscaled versions of regular LEGO Technic elements made from hundreds of individual LEGO pieces – that was used by master builders for the first time on today.   

“Our designers are always ready for the next challenge, but building this iconic model for real certainly pushed their building expertise to the limit” said Joanna Katharina Lazar, Vice President Global Product and Marketing Development at the LEGO Group. “Watching their creativity as they tackled the pioneering build live at Le Mans next to the real model, and hearing the crowd cheering them on was truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The challenge really shows that with LEGO Technic and some imagination, you can build anything for real.”

This weekend, here at Le Mans, are seeing the LEGO Technic PEUGEOT 9X8 come to life in the size of our race car! Not far from the PEUGEOT stand fans at Le Mans can visit the LEGO shop or explore their love of motorsports at the LEGO Group Experience Zone in the Fan Village. They will have the chance to test their engineering prowess by building and racing their own LEGO car, snap a shot against some amazing LEGO displays built by local fans, and enter competitions to win LEGO sets signed by LEGO Designer, Aurélien Rouffiange.

**Big build activation** 
 - We have upscaled the LEGO Technic PEUGEOT 9x8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar to 11:1 scale… in just 24 hours. 
 - We built it live at Le Mans.
 - We built it in 24 hours to celebrate the centenary of the 24H Le Mans.
 - We had 12 builders on site to complete the challenge.
 - We have used hyper elements to make the build possible; this is the first time we have ever used this building technique and the team came up with hyper elements for this challenge.  
 - The finished model features 623 different types of LEGO Technic elements, weights over 900 kg and is a scaled-up replica of the real-life LEGO Technic model: 520 cm long, 220 cm wide and 136 cm high. 
 - The build consists of 720 hyper elements/626.392 LEGO Technic elements.
